Right before it went under Napster gave the RIAA its last chance effort to save itself – by offering the music industry $1billion dollars for legal immunity. As documented in the recently published ‘The Future of the Music Business Third Edition’, Napster’s efforts not only confirms the industry’s lack of willingness to lose the beloved percentage fees on sales, but also how limited scope becomes when the only revenue businesses are left with is advertising.
