22 Jun “Original Is Never Finished” wins Grand Prix at Cannes
Record-Play is delighted to announce that one of the highest profile campaigns we’ve ever supervised the music for has won the biggest music prize in advertising, at the prestigious Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
adidas’ “Original Is Never Finished” campaign, a creation by NYC agency Johannes Leonardo, deservedly scooped this year’s Entertainment for Music Grand Prix, enjoying a unanimous verdict from the Cannes jury panel. Starring a host of emerging and established stars from the worlds of music, art, fashion and sport (including Mabel, Stormzy, Snoop Dogg and Dev Hynes), “Original Is Never Finished” celebrates universal creativity using a unique reinterpretation of Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ by the music company Human.
Jury President Olivier Robert-Murphy reserved special praise for the treatment of music within the campaign: “It took the most overused song, and totally reinvented it. The name of the shoes is ‘Originals,’ and they took that [idea] and turned it into a multiplatform success. It used a new generation of creatives to really find the meaning of originality which was a perfect fit.”
Record-Play supervised the music licensing.
